I started Yoga for Chronic Pain at the Wellmark YMCA in September of this year. I have been pleasantly surprised about how beneficial the class has been. Previously I had tried a beginners yoga class at my doctor’s suggestion, however, the poses and balance skills being taught were way beyond my abilities and stamina and I was able to participate in about 1/2 of each class. Therefore, I was not able to complete the course.
When I started again this fall, Toni took time to read up on my rare medical condition. She has concentrated on balance, stretching, and strengthening my muscles and she has modified poses teaching me step by step so I could build up to completing them successfully. Something I have just recently been able to do! We are finding that as I gain some ability to stretch my muscles I am experiencing fewer episodes of cramps and/or severe muscle spasms. For the first time in over four years I am able to tolerate sitting on the floor cross legged or with my legs straight out without intense, almost unbearable physical pain. Also, my balance continues to improve, as has the intensity of pain I experience in my hip.
It feels so good to be able to accomplish the goals Toni sets before me. I was happy to be asked for an endorsement for this class because it is easy to share many reasons I can wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone experience chronic pain or balance issues. I would be more than happy to have you join us!
